This book tells the story of Saint Valentine, the Roman physician for whom Valentine's Day is named. The story takes place in the Roman Empire about 200 years after the death of Christ. Valentine is a follower of the new Christian faith and is persecuted for his beliefs. When he is arrested, he sends a note to a young blind girl he has been treating. You will have to read the book to find out the rest of the story. Rachel and Sarah highly recommend this book for both the story and the wonderful mosaic style illustrations.

The Legend of the Valentine by Katherine Grace Bond
This book tells two stories in one. First, it tells of the legend of the Roman Christian physician Valentine and how his name became associated with the valentines we send on Valentine's Day. Drawing upon the theme of forgiveness to unite the two stories, It also tells a story of the Civil Rights Movement that took place in the United States during the 1960s. Highly recommended by the Book Nuts.

Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch by Eileen Spinelli
This is the perfect Valentine's Day book. Mr. Hatch lives a very ordered and boring life. He doesn't smile much, and he doesn't talk to other people very much. Read this book to find out how a simple message changes Mr. Hatch's life. Highly recommended by Rachel and Sarah.

Love Is . . . illustrated by Wendy Anderson Halperin
Ms. Halperin takes the words the apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians and illustrates them in this lovely picture book. It's a great book to read on Valentine's Day or any day of the year. The pictures are very intricate and you can find something new every time you look at them. Recommended by the Book Nuts.
