Middle School -- what kind of name is that? We're not in elementary school anymore. No more babying from our parents or teachers, and we really don't want to be treated like babies. Yet, we're not in high school, either. We can't drive, we still have early curfews. We are expected to be responsible for our actions, but we can't make a lot of decisions on our own. We're stuck in the middle!
Finding great books to read is tough, too. In school, it seems teachers are always assigning novels written for adults a hundred years ago! Yuk! We don't want to read "baby" books either. Many authors are writing books for middle schoolers, but sometimes grown-ups are scared of those books. Are they appropriate for us to read? They aren't ready to let us read grown-up books, but they don't want us reading The Hardy Boys anymore. (Like who wants to????)
On these pages, we hope to recommend books that Middle Schoolers will enjoy. The young adult section of the book store is full of great reads. We may even recommend a few grown-up books. Mom will try to add any beware comments for the grown-ups. It's important to remember to respect everyone and to remember that what's right for one kid isn't always right for another. So while you might not like all the books recommended here, hopefully you will be able to find something you will enjoy reading.
