Starting Your Own Book Nuts' Club
You can start your own Book Nuts' Club.  It's really easy
and fun.   Just follow these steps.

1.  Find an adult sponsor.  Ask your Mom, Dad, or another
adult you admire to help supervise your meetings and to
help you find a place to meet.  Our sponsor is Book Nuts'
Mom.  She is also the Webmaster of our site and my Mom.

2.  Ask a group of friends to join you in reading and
discussing good books.  A good number to start with is 6 to
10 friends.

3.  Pick a great book for your first meeting.  I chose
Ramona Quimby, Age 8, because I had read other Ramona
books and liked them and I was 8 years old when we began
Book Nuts..  I thought Ramona might have a lot in common
with me and my friends.  (It was also on our Summer
Reading List).  You can find other book suggestions on this
site.

4.  Pick a date.  Let everyone know when to be there and
remember to remind them that they must have their book
read by then.   At the first meeting have  two or three more
books available for your friends to look at.  It's helpful if
your sponsor has read them and can tell you a little about
them.  Vote on the book you want to read for your next
meeting and pick a date.

5.  At your meeting, talk about the book you read for the
meeting.  For our first few meetings, we have used different
activities to guide our disscussion.  These methods
provided us with a way to get started talking about the
book.   As we grow and get more experienced, we will just
start talking about our books.  During this summer we did
special literature response sheets so that we could practice
our writing, but it's not necessary.

6.  Have fun!  Talking about books is fun and it helps you
understand what you have read much better.  I love to read
and I love talking about what I read at Book Nuts!
