Great Read Alouds for Preschoolers
Don't forget the littlest readers in your home.  While most preschoolers
aren't reading on their own yet, it is extremely important that they be
exposed to great books and reading early.  When small children are
read to daily, they develop a more sophisticated vocabulary and better
knowledge of story structure which will help them tremendously as they
begin their schooling and learning to read.
To Market, To Market
by Anne Miranda
A simple trip to the grocery turns into
absolute chaos (many of my early trips to
the grocery with small children in tow turned
out the same so I could relate)!  Find out
what happens when the groceries are alive
and our shopper must find a solution to her
hunger.  (Hint: We often would read this
book when soup or gazpacho is on the
menu for lunch.)  Recommended by Sarah.
Rachel Fister's Blister
by Amy MacDonald

This rhyming story is loads of fun.  Everyone in
town is called to try to cure poor Rachel's blister
on "her little left-hand toe", but only two people
can figure out exactly what Rachel needs.  This
has been a favorite story in our home for many
years.  Recommended by Rachel and Sarah
"Hi, Pizza Man!"
by Virginia Walter

Pete's A Pizza
by William Steig

Pizza is a basic food group around our home and
these two books are loads of fun to read while
you are waiting for your hot pizza to arrive by
either delivery or home oven. Recommended by
Sarah
We're Going on a Bear Hunt
by Michael Rosen

This is a classic story and the oversize style
of the book makes it perfect for sharing.
Read the story and add sound effects and
hand motions.  It's also lots of fun to go on
your own "bear" hunt by hiding a stuffed
animal and going through household or yard
obstacles such as piled up pillows or over a
jungle gym.  Recommended by Sarah.
