What Would Joey Do?
by Jack Gantos
These three books are terrific reads for any kid
who knows a kid with ADHD or has problems with
this condition themselves.  I have ADHD and while
I don't have many of the other problems Joey has
in his life that complicates his condition, I do know
how he feels when his life spins out of control.  I
think it is important for other people to realize that
ADHD is something a kid cannot help -- it is the
way their brains are wired.  Children with ADHD
must learn to find ways to cope with ADHD and
must work harder than most kids to develop
self-control.  These books show the reader what it
really feels like to have ADHD.

Adults can learn from these books, too.  My mom
reads these books at least once a year to help
remind her that the things I do are not just my way
of "pushing her buttons."  She even wrote an
article about the first two books for a class she
took in college about how to teach children with
ADHD and other learning difficulties.

A Series of Unfortunate Events:
The Bad Beginning
by Lemony Snicket

This suspenseful tale is about three children
named Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire
whose parents die.  The children are forced to
live with the most vile and evil man who is in
search of the children's fortune.  I recommend
these books because the author is very funny
and the books are very exciting!  You'll be done
with the series before you even realize it!
