Lily's Purple Plastic Purse
by Kevin Henkes

Lily loves her teacher, Mr. Slinger, until one day
when she gets in trouble for trying to share her
purple plastic purse at an inappropriate time.  Lily
reacts in anger and learns a lesson in forgiveness
from Mr. Slinger.  Kevin Henkes always manages
to accurately depict the feelings of young children
and how they react while still leaving all readers
with a positive lesson without being preachy or
condescending.  Rachel and Sarah recommend
this book highly.
The Story of Ruby Bridges
by Robert Coles

This book is a true story of courage and
forgiveness.  Ruby Bridges was only six years
old when she became one of four black girls to
integrate New Orleans public schools.  Ruby
showed a great ability to forgive the white
protesters who heckled her each and every
day as she walked up the steps of her new
school.  Ruby Bridges is a real life kid hero
and Rachel and Sarah highly recommend this
book.
