Madeline By Ludwig Bemelmans Every kid loves Madeline, even boys!  Madeline is one great girl.  She may be the small,  but she is tough.  Don't mess with Madeline!  Read this book and all the sequels.   In this first book, it's great fun to notice all the great landmarks of Paris that are included in the pictures. Recommended by Rachel and Sarah.

For teachers and parents Five in Row has produced a wonderful integrated unit using Madeline.  The Madeline unit is found in the Volume 1 Five in A Row guide and can be ordered from Five in a Row.

For Freedom: The Story of a French Spy by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley The time is World War II and the Nazis have invaded France, but the French people were not conquered.  The French Resistance is one of the most fascinating stories of that awful war.  In this book, based on a true story, readers experience this courageous story through a teenage girl who becomes a spy for the Resistance Movement.
