The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey
by Susan Wojciechowski

This beautifully illustrated and deeply moving
Christmas story deserves to be a part of
everyone's Christmas holiday.  A lonely widower
and a young widow are brought together by the
power of the Christmas story as a new nativity set
is carved. We dare you to read this book without
shedding a tear.  Recommended by Rachel and
Sarah.
The Polar Express
by Chris Van Allsburg

This classic picture book is now a great movie,
but be sure to read the book first!  The
illustrations won a Caldecott Medal.  They are
incredible!  The story is wonderful, too.  Who will
get the first gift of Christmas and what will it be?
Highly recommended by Rachel and Sarah.
Wombat Divine
by Mem Fox

It's Christmas time and Wombat is so excited.  This
year he can try out for the Nativity play!  Read and
find out what part Wombat gets in this wonderful
story by Mem Fox.  (It's also a great introduction to
many of Australia's unique animals.)
Recommended by Sarah.

The Story of Holly and Ivy
by Rumer Godden
While this classic Christmas book is in picture
book format, it is really a short novel.  Holly and
Ivy, a doll and an orphan find each other and
share the true meaning of Christmas.  It makes a
wonderful read aloud.  Share this story with your
family today.  Recommended by Rachel and
Sarah
Novels
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
by Barbara Robinson

The Herdmans are the meanest kids in town
and now they are starring in the Christmas
Pageant!  As the Herdmans experience the
Christmas pageant for the first time, they learn
what Christmas is all about and help the town
remember the true meaning of the holiday.
One of the best Christmas stories ever.
Recommended by Rachel and Sarah.
The Last Holiday Concert
by Andrew Clements

Andrew Clements always delivers a great book
when he is writing about school and school
activities, and this book is no exception.  Hart Evans
is the most popular boy in the sixth grade class at
Palmer Intermediate, but what happens when Hart
has to be a leader?  This book explores the
differences between popularity and leadership,
between democracy and dictatorship, and between
true education and rote learning.  It is also a great
holiday story!  We listened to this story on tape
while traveling on Christmas break and highly
recommend it!  Rachel and Sarah.
