The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg
This classic picture book is now a great movie, but be sure to read the book first! The illustrations won a Caldecott Medal. They are incredible! The story is wonderful, too. Who will get the first gift of Christmas and what will it be? Highly recommended by Rachel and Sarah.

While this classic Christmas book is in picture book format, it is really a short novel. Holly and Ivy, a doll and an orphan find each other and share the true meaning of Christmas. It makes a wonderful read aloud. Share this story with your family today. Recommended by Rachel and Sarah

The Last Holiday Concert by Andrew Clements
Andrew Clements always delivers a great book when he is writing about school and school activities, and this book is no exception. Hart Evans is the most popular boy in the sixth grade class at Palmer Intermediate, but what happens when Hart has to be a leader? This book explores the differences between popularity and leadership, between democracy and dictatorship, and between true education and rote learning. It is also a great holiday story! We listened to this story on tape while traveling on Christmas break and highly recommend it! Rachel and Sarah.
